Melanie, Melrose, or Melissa "Mel" Winters (Skyler Day) is Sonny's neighbor in the episode "New Girl."
Personality[]
Mel "knows people" (just like Sonny and Chad claim to, and how Grady 'thinks' he can). She could tell everything there is to know about Grady but could not about Sonny. Mel is known to be the funny and random type, like Sonny Monroe. She has a big crush on Grady.
Mel can also sing and has a 8:30 crowd at The Patio, she is also Sonny's neighbor and lives in the flat just above her (Room 304). She is not known to be her neighbor until Chad makes so much noise she is forced to come down. Although she claims to not like Sonny's music, after Sonny's song, she is seen clapping enthusiastically for Sonny, however it is possible it was for support.
Biography[]
Before Sonny and Mel officially meet, they unknowingly interact with each other while Sonny is playing her guitar too loud in her apartment. Mel, from above, yells at her to stop, causing Sonny to yell back.
The two actually meet at The Patio, a local coffee shop, where Mel works as a waitress. She is the one who encourages and covers for Sonny when she signs up for the open mic night. It is through Sonny that Mel is able to find out the details on "feet on the table" (also known as Grady), whom she has an apparent crush on. Grady appears to return the crush.
Later, when Sonny is practicing her guitar again, Mel becomes aggravated and yells at her to stop again. Both Sonny and Chad, who has come over to retrieve his "hat," provoke her to come downstairs. It is at this moment that Sonny and Mel realized they're neighbors.
Mel, eventually, helps Sonny to realize that she still retains feelings for Chad, even after the break up.

Sonny and Mel have a verbally aggressive relationship at first, prior to actually meeting each other. After they meet at The Patio, they become more friendly towards each other when they realize they are in fact neighbors. Mel helps Sonny through her relationship issue with Chad and supports her singing performance.
Grady Mitchell (crush, friend, 2011-present)[]

Mel has an obvious crush on Grady. Towards the end of the episode "New Girl," after he talks to her using his Scottish alter-ego, she states, "He's such a dork. I love him." Grady has an apparent crush on Mel as well. He becomes very nervous around her and her presence even causes his largest nervous tick, his alter-ego, Seamus McGregor, to come into being.

- At first, there were rumors going around that Mel's name was Nora, but it turned out to be Mel.
- Although never actually said in the episode, Mel is credited with the last name "Winters."
- In the beginning, Mel is seen to not like Sonny because she is a noisy neighbor, but when they talk about her feelings for Chad they start to become friends.
- Sonny and Mel have somewhat of a love-hate relationship.
- Mel knows people, just like Sonny and Chad claim to.
- It is possible Mel and Grady start dating, but not certain, as Mel only appears in the last episode of Sonny With a Chance.
